How to Receive Free UPSC Coaching in India

UPSC CSE is considered to be one of the most challenging examinations in India. Every year, lakhs of aspirants dream about becoming an IAS Officer. However, due to unavailability of funds a lot of students are unable to fulfil their dream. In order to help the aspirants, the state governments have taken up the initiative of supporting aspirants appearing for competitive exams by providing funding and tutoring.

UPSC Scholarship Provided through Government Schemes

The following State Government Schemes offer financial assistance to students preparing for Government Exam:

Uttar Pradesh – CM Abhyudaya Yojana

The Abhyudaya Yojana, launched by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, provides free coaching (both online and offline) for aspirants of competitive exams such as UPSC, NEET, and JEE. The programme includes guidance and mentorship from serving IAS, PCS, and subject experts, aimed at bridging the accessibility gap for underprivileged students.

Uttar Pradesh – Dashmottar Scholarship Scheme

Originally designed as a post-matric scholarship, the Dashmottar Scholarship has been extended to support UPSC coaching for eligible candidates belonging to OBC, SC, ST, and EWS categories, subject to specified conditions.

Delhi – Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana

The Delhi Government launched the Jai Bheem Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana for the General Category students as well as the SC, ST and OBC aspirants to provide either free or subsidised coaching for competitive and entrance exams including JEE, NEET, UPSC etc. the goal is to remove economical barriers and make sure that the deserving candidates belonging to low income families receive the best quality guidance for public, private and higher education opportunities.
Students will pay 25% of the coaching fee and 75% will be provided by the government.
For the students having a total family income of Rs. 2 lakh and less will receive 100% fee coverage for students.
Fee grants are transferred directly to coaching institutes in two installments.
Tamil Nadu – Naan Mudhalvan Scheme
The Tamil Nadu government’s Naan Mudhalvan scheme offers both financial and training support to UPSC aspirants.
₹7,500 per month for 10 months during Prelims preparation
₹25,000 for Mains preparation
₹50,000 for Interview preparation

Chhattisgarh – Rajiv Yuva Utthan Yojana

This scheme provides free UPSC coaching (online/offline) to candidates from SC/ST/OBC categories, along with a monthly stipend of ₹1,000 to support basic needs during preparation.

Arunachal Pradesh – CM’s Combined Civil Services Coaching Scheme

The scheme supports APST candidates with:
₹2 lakhs for Prelims
₹3 lakhs for Mains. Coaching is provided through empanelled institutes and NGOs to ensure quality guidance.

Tripura – LAKSHYA Scholarship Scheme

Designed to assist civil services aspirants at different stages:
₹1,00,000 for Mains qualifiers (₹70,000 for coaching & materials + ₹30,000 for travel)
₹20,000 for Interview preparation
All funds are directly transferred to beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Gujarat – SC Coaching Assistance Scheme

Launched by the Directorate of Scheduled Caste Welfare, the scheme offers financial support to SC candidates preparing for recruitment exams:
Up to ₹20,000 or actual coaching fee (whichever is lower)
Amount is disbursed via DBT directly to the student’s account.

Maharashtra – UPSC Scholarship Programme

Eligible candidates (who cleared Mains but did not qualify in the final list in the last 3 years) receive:
₹10,000 per month
Full coaching fee reimbursement (Subject to an income cap)

Manipur – Super IAS 500 Scholarship

Under this scheme, the top 500 aspirants are selected for coaching support:
Top 200 receive full coaching sponsorship
Next 300 are provided with partial financial assistance…
